My take on Sneakers & Dresses

As a believer in the fact that almost anything is styleable, I have to admit one trend that I've been hesitant to try out. The sometimes cute, sometimes cringe pairing of sneakers and dresses. We've all seen the sudden popularity of sneakers in the high fashion scene within the last few years. Notable brands such as Chanel, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen have all released their own takes on the timeless shoe style. And not long after that come all the affordable retail versions of similar silhouettes. Trust me when I say I've seen my share of summer dresses with slim all white sneakers and even short bodycon pieces with a variety of chunky sneakers. As I scrolled through these images on the gram, I can't help but to feel a little unable to relate seeing as none of these personal styles really resonated with me. I'm not exactly a summer dress kind of chick and also not really a bodycon kind either. In fact, I'm rarely a dress wearing girl at all so not being able to see this trend styled to my preferred taste only turned me off further.

And then Georgia heat and humidity broke me down.

With the extreme summer heat beating down day after day, I got to a point where I simply REFUSED to wear pants. I stood in front of the section of my closet where I store all my often neglected dresses and started brainstorming outfits that would work well with a pair of my most popular shoe brand of choice - Air Jordans. I think it's noteworthy to point out that most of my sneakers are Jordans, which only added to my resistance due to their general chunkiness as it is. But after some time rummaging through possible sneaker-dress pairing options, I came up with an outfit that finally felt comfortable to me. And in true 'Minamash' fashion, it was the perfect blend of feminine & masculine duality.

I settled on this royal blue plaid button down dress and complimented it with a new pair of Air Jordan IV's in black fur detail. The color story and overall styling of the two pieces together left me feeling sporty & sexy - which is my go-to vibe.

The plaid printed dress was a statement piece on it's own so it was a conscious decision to pair it with an all black shoe in efforts to not overwhelm the outfit. I did, however, embellish a bit by adding a variety of accessories to go with the look. I added a green fitted cap to compliment the cool tones of the dress and a coincidentally perfectly matching green Telfar bag to complete the look. Finished off by throwing on a few gold jewelry pieces here & there and voila!
